From Homeopathy to Nursing School: Kelly Callahan’s Unconventional Journey
Most people don’t spend more than a decade building a career only to head back to school. But that’s exactly what homeopath Kelly Callahan decided to do.
When Kelly first became interested in homeopathy, she assumed she would need a medical or nursing degree to practice. She soon discovered another path and went on to build a successful homeopathic practice, become an educator, and join the faculty at the Academy of Homeopathy Education.
But there was something she had never quite let go of: the desire for a deeper understanding of medicine and what happens in the human body.
Now, years later, Kelly is in nursing school.
And she’s discovering some surprising connections between what she’s learning and what she’s been practicing and teaching for years.
Her goal isn’t to leave homeopathy behind. Kelly lives in a medically underserved community in rural Maine, and she’s working toward a future where homeopathy could be offered alongside conventional healthcare as part of primary care.
But what would that actually look like?
As Kelly shares her experience with Denise Straiges and Alastair Gray, the conversation takes some interesting turns. What can homeopaths learn from nursing about clinical responsibility, evidence, and informed consent? How might a broader medical education change the way a homeopath approaches a case? And what responsibilities come with bringing homeopathy into a more integrated healthcare setting?
Kelly also shares some memorable experiences from homeopathic provings, her unconventional approach to education, and the lessons she’s taking from being a student again.
It’s a conversation about following your curiosity, challenging what you think you know, and imagining new possibilities for the future of professional homeopathy.
